Seema Raja movie review: This Sivakarthikeyan movie is a colourless comedy

Seema Raja ends up trivializing even the extreme moments due to its compulsive need to entertain audience at all times. The premise of the film, the kings and queens of twenty first century, is misplaced in translation. It is difficult for the target audience to take Sivakarthikeyan as a modern-day king critically when director himself can not promote the idea. The switch from our hero being a millennial craving social media interest to a king who loves his land and people is tough to digest. Ponram's previous films with Sivakarthikeyan, which include Varuthapadathey Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan, had been enjoyable only due to their humour. The very same humour turns into a stumbling block in Seema Raja because the director fails to segue the two very exclusive plots satisfactorily. Samantha Akkineni and Sivakarthikeyan in a nevertheless from Seema Raja. For example, we see there is animosity between Puliampatti people and Singampatti human beings in Seema Raja, a thread if explored in addition ought to have added depth to the film, rather what we get is Alauddin Khilji travelling down south from Delhi to cheat a king! The time spent on this a part of the movie, and the effort, is honestly visible. On its personal, the story of the Pandian king Kadambavel Raja has merit too. The trouble is whilst this component is reduced to being a crutch of kinds to Seema Raja's success. A hilarious back story might were extra in tune with the mood of the movie. Seema Raja serves one motive though - it takes Sivakarthikeyan's profession arc forward. The actor has already proved that he can do comedy, romance and motion and now he proves that he is prepared for the following degree of stardom. Seema Raja, in that feel, facilitates Siva play a number of roles as the main man. The film is not so accommodating to its leading female, Samantha Akkineni. Her man or woman, Suthanthira Selvi, is a Silambam instructor who can take care of any tough state of affairs with aplomb. It is quite a downer whilst we see her gambling a damsel in misery later. Simran plays the stereotyped vamp within the film. She is portrayed as home wrecker who seduces a married guy. She has the mood of Kaali, who she is named after, and he or she thirsts after strength. This person has ability however the movie refuses to mine it; what we get as an alternative is theatrics and drama. The call of Soori's 3 better halves -- Jil, Jung, Juk - is based on a sexist comic story from a Vadivelu films is grating and insensitive. The movie was promoted as child-pleasant so it does beggar the question if having a couple of better halves and using them as infant-making machines is considered funny by means of the makers. Instead of showing any remorse at the a part of Soori's character, we see him marrying for a fourth time at the cease of the film. And therein lies the movie's hassle - its snicker-out-loud moments are outweighed by means of face palm moments.
