Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu movie review: Pa Ranjith's anti-war production is shocking and funny

The film's premise is both interesting and exciting. It follows events that are set in motion after a bomb from World War II is accidentally discovered. The story is not about the devastation that could be caused by the bomb's explosion but it's about various other issues like caste, landless migrant labourers and hazardous working environment in scrapyard. There's also a sub-plot about how some people want to make money off the bomb without understanding the danger associated with it. The film, a satire at heart, works as a multi-genre drama that's both hard-hitting and thought-provoking. Debutant writer-director Athiyan Athirai is a talent to watch out for. He makes the film work as a terrific allegory on anti-war and politics but at the same time he has elements that appeal to mainstream audiences as well. Another reason why the film works effectively because it never gets into preaching mode and delivers its message in the most entertaining fashion, courtesy Dinesh and Muniskanth who play their respective parts as earnestly as possible. These are two most memorable characters of Tamil cinema in 2019 and if this performance of Muniskanth doesn't earn him more offers, then I'm not sure what will. Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu works as a satire. Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu is a very important film, simply because it takes up a topic that is never been discussed before and makes it so entertaining and captivating. There's hardly a dull moment and even the small things that don't fully work are negligible because of the overall treatment. The film is a reminder that all serious issues need not have to be necessarily treated seriously and that by bringing in a comical flavour the narrative can work even more effectively. Down In Jungleland: A Clean Bill of Health

Later, when as a grown-up he was taken to the Ridge, he would assiduously seek out the 'compost-pits' (basically trash piles) and finish his jobs there. And then, vigorously cover it up by kicking stuff over it with his hind legs: All this without being 'trained' (he had an aversion to training in any form). Cats, as any cat lover will tell you, are fastidiously fussy about their toilette — and also very carefully cover up their droppings. And all mama animals make sure their babies are squeaky clean especially after eating! Sure, many animals use pee and poo as scent markers, especially as claims to territory and a 'come-hither' to prospective mates. Well, we do much the same on social media, raising an even bigger stink! Birds are especially particular about personal hygiene — they have to keep their feathers in tip-top nick if they are to fly. I once watched a beautiful darter in Bharatpur preen itself for 45 minutes: minutely running its spear bill through every pinion. You may say, what about those dreadful domestic pigeons (the blue rock dove)? They stink to high heavens. And, god forbid, if one poops on you (I had that misfortune once and it ruined my lunch)! Sure they raise a stink but that's because their numbers in cities (thanks to us) have gone through the roof. Cram people into an enclosed space on a hot, humid day and tell them to make babies — and, well, armpits, etc., will reek, a bit. Baby birds of several species, like egrets and herons, often use poop and vomit as a defence mechanism: when a predator comes calling they get a load of muck in their faces, which, I guess, work as an appetite killer! Elephants will drop turds as they casually sashay along as do many other herbivores. But for them, Mother Nature has in place a disposal system that gets to work almost immediately. The bombs fall, and within minutes, squadrons of dung beetles turn up — aggressively fighting for all the best bits. Some tunnel themselves in the stuff, others roll them into balls and trundle them off to their holes where they lay their eggs in them, and often there's a lot of wrestling — and some dacoity — taking place. But the stuff is gone — and turned into rich soil before you know it. In fact, we learned just how essential dung beetles (and other like-minded insects) were when cattle and sheep were introduced in Australia, in thousands. The poor local dung-beetles were only used to process the dung of local animals, such as kangaroos. They couldn't deal with cattle dung. Soon Australia was in danger of going neck-deep in dung. So they launched a campaign to import dung beetles which were accustomed to dealing with cattle dung - and the problem was solved. Some animals like rhinos will poop in the same place in what are called middens — which again in rhino-lore are property documents. Hippos do this in water, and spray the stuff around with their whisk-like tails, which, agreed, is disgusting: Which is why survivalists will tell us not to drink the water from a stream or spring because you never know what's gone into the water upstream. Many animals and birds seem to eat wastefully: monkeys take one bite of a fruit, discard it, pick up another, parrots do much the same. But again, Mother Nature's immediate pick-up squads are on call: fallen fruit is taken by deer and other grazers. The kills of carnivores are cleaned up by hyenas, jackals and vultures (which, believe it or not, are the cleanest birds around): nothing is left to rot and spread disease. Besides, all fruit come in their own custom-wrapping — their skins. In some, like bananas, they even indicate the right time to eat them: when they're ripe and sweet — the skin comes off smoothly and silkily. (Try peeling a raw banana). Only humans need to encase bananas — and other fruits and vegetables — in industrial-strength plastic cladding to which nothing can happen for the next 5,000 years. We've poisoned our air and water and the earth itself and we think we're the cat's whiskers! And, then, we rudely tell someone making a mess: 'Don't be such a pig!' Gunners fire coach Emery

We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team. The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required," the club said in a statement."We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward. The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete." "Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand," read the club statement. "We wish Unai and his team nothing but future success."Ljungberg, a member of Wenger's "Invincibles" team that went an entire season unbeaten en route to the 2003-04 Premier League title, was appointed assistant coach in June and will now take over while the club searches for a new head coach. While Arsenal can still qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League, supporters at a half-empty Emirates Stadium made their anger known on Thursday by booing the Spaniard, with a handful of them holding up cards saying "Emery Out".Supporters have recently vented their frustration with the club's poor run of form and for Thursday's tie, thousands of empty seats could be seen at the 60,000-capacity ground."Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club back to competing at the level we all expect and demand," Josh Kroenke said on behalf of club owners Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.Emery, who won the Europa League three times with Sevilla, failed to lead Arsenal back to the Champions League after finishing fifth in the league and also missing out by losing 1-4 in the Europa League final to Chelsea. Ljungberg takes over on an interim basis at the club where he made his name and the former midfielder will be relishing the chance to show fans what he can do.Brought to the club from Halmstad in 1998, Ljungberg went on to score 46 goals in 216 games for the Gunners, displaying his combative style as well as several punk-inspired hairstyles in that time. KBC 11 finale hosts Sudha Murty: Here's the Rs 50 lakh question that made her quit

The options included Sharmila Tagore, Kangana Ranaut, Kajol and Jaya Bachchan. Sudha decided to quit and took a 'wild guess' later and picked Kajol's name while the right answer was Jaya. Amitabh was quite disappointed with Sudha's answer and he said, 'Ghar ja ke mujhe bahut maar padne wali hai. (I am going to get a beating when I reach home).' Bigg Boss 13: Devoleena Bhattacharjee hospitalised, may exit show for a week or more T 3564 - Its the Grand Finale of KBC .. tomorrow 29th Nov .. another season filled with the love and the affection of the well wishers .. thank you ever so much ..  https://t.co/WCKDMhUHiS — Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) November 28, 2019 In the finale episode, Murthy went down the memory lane and recalled how she had landed her first job in Telco, the organisation which did not hire female employees at that time. 'It was March 1974, I was in my MTech final year when I came across a notice which stated - Telco requires bright, young engineers at a salary of Rs 1,500. This was big money at that time. But that notice followed with a line that said lady students need not apply. I was agitated! I took a postcard… addressed it to Mr. JRD Tata, TELCO, Mumbai and mailed it,' Murty recalled, on the quiz show. After writing a letter to JRD Tata asking for women engineers to be accepted in Telco, Murty was summoned for a job interview in Pune. That's how she became the first woman engineer to work in TELCO. Show host Amitabh was motivated listening to her story and even took her autograph and touched her feet. On the loose: Something Novel

For someone who is in-charge of passenger services at the Railways, one would imagine there's plenty of work to finish before judging travellers' morals and roundly condemning their taste. Like providing clean restrooms, tackling petty crimes or carving out a comfortable space for commuters to sit while at the station. I can only ever remember standing endlessly while waiting for a train. One wonders also what books, if any, Ratn reads for entertainment. Probably, there'd be lessons in self-improvement hidden in tales of stolid, morally upright heroes forever undeterred by deadly tedium. However, most of us lesser mortals, especially those embarking on a long train journey, will happily sacrifice personal growth for shockingly escapist stories, as long as they keep us entertained and make time fly. Like Bollywood potboilers of old that combine a dance and a fight sequence within the same frame, pulp fiction, at its best, offers a witty combination of lurid crime and passionate romance. Chances are that Singh's Woman, Sex, Love and Lust would sell much more from the railway station than from Khan Market because provocatively-titled books have been the reliable companions of Indian travellers, since the '70s. It's remarkable that the steamy paperbacks available at AH Wheeler, the Indian Railways' historic bookshop, have escaped this chairman's attention all these years. Beneath the newspapers, magazines and Dan Browns, there are plenty of suggestive regional titles competing for attention. Printed on grainy cheap paper, they invariably feature a pouting, semi-clad woman on the cover. Typically, the sensual narrative runs colourfully amok really quickly, and rightly so; nobody is buying Vardi Mein Gunda expecting Booker Prize-winning profundity. Alas, Ratn's opinions on these racy and titillating paperbacks are as outdated as these books themselves. They capture a particular moment in time in India, pre-liberalisation and pre-internet, before satellite TV invaded our lives or expanded our worldview, however one chooses to see it. In the absence of better forms of entertainment, these richly imagined, far-fetched plots felt fully plausible on a languid summer afternoon. And though far from high brow, it was time better spent than on a phone, scrolling down Instagram, or consuming news in shorts. My abiding memories of rail journeys feature, most prominently, author James Hadley Chase, and it makes me achingly nostalgic for that far more innocent time when the evilest of plots involved a foxy young wife plotting to kill her rich grumpy husband — while double-crossing her lover. Now when porn is available at the click of a button and we're inundated with anonymous SMSes promising massages, why would anyone even bother about removing a book — about which the worst that can be said is that the erotic shenanigans of its characters is not depraved enough (for our times). There's no need to feel guilty about enjoying stories that whatever the narrative, always have an optimistic ending. Briefly at least, they transport us away from the dreary realities of our own lives. Futuristic Apple product revealed and it's unlike anything we have seen before

To explain this, what the patent means is that with this virtual room, the headphones would allow the caller's voice to appear as if it was coming from a direction where he or she would be sitting if they were present in front of the caller in the same room. With this, the listener on call would be able to rotate his or her head towards the person speaking to make the conversation feel more natural, a related report by Business Insider explains. The ultimate goal of such technology would enable to easily identify the person speaking during a conference call. The patent states, 'Multiparty conference calls often have callers participating from different locations which may be all over the world. In situations without video feedback, it is especially difficult to identify a speaker. Often, when callers can't be identified or heard, interaction during such conference calls may be awkward." The drawing below illustrates the patent and shows a listener wearing headphones while partaking in a conference call. Apple is tipped to release a pair of headphones with both virtual and augmented reality features by 2021 or 2022 and it would be intended for video games, virtual meetings and video consumption. ...
